This month I’m excited to show you a specimen from my collection and tell you a bit about it!
Some of my favorite specimens are those that have more than one mineral.
The main mineral in this specimen is a deep dark purple Fluorite with cubic (box shaped) crystals. There are also a few amber-colored dog tooth Calcite crystals (they have a pointy end like a sharp tooth). This is a smaller specimen that will fit in the palm of your hand.
The most striking feature is the deep dark purple color.
Fluorite is one of my favorite minerals. It can be found all over the world and comes in many different colors and crystal shapes. My dad had an amazing rock collection that included some spectacular pieces of Fluorite. This piece is from his collection and was most likely purchased in the late 1990’s.
